The oral cavity and gastrointestinal tract are home to two complex microbial ecosystems that are increasingly understood to be interconnected. This session explores the emerging science of the oral-gut axis, examining how oral microbes may influence the gut microbiome, inflammatory pathways and health beyond the mouth. Drawing on current microbiome research, this session will explore what we know, what is still emerging, and why understanding the oral-gut connection matters for health professionals.
